About Us

We often get asked how we came up with the name Double J Cattle & Hay. Grandpa Pete came to the Gunnison Valley in 1961 to
start the family ranch with his beautiful bride Mae.  They have a special
place in both of our hearts, and we have a passion to continue the tradition
they started. Grandpa Pete had a nickname he came up with after we met, and he
always had a big grin on his face when he said it.  Jason was called “big
J” and Jessica “little J” (if you saw how tall we each are, you would
understand).

Double J Cattle & Hay is
located just outside of Gunnison, CO. We have a cattle and hay operation in
conjunction with Peterson Ranch and Peterson Cattle and Hay. We raise Angus and
Limousine cross cattle and take pride in the product we deliver to your table,
from our family to yours. We primarily offer wholesale beef options but will be
expanding to hay sales and agriculture trucking services soon.

Our goal is to bring high
quality beef to the tables of local families, at an affordable price. We often
hear after someone buys our beef that “they can’t go back to grocery store
beef”. We are a small-town family that loves our community, our heritage, and
connecting with our customers.

We couldn’t do what we do
without our smallest ranch hands (Hailey and Caleb). They are the best beef
delivery assistants and have a love for our ranching life. You can catch Hailey
with all the animals, and Caleb won’t turn down a ride on a tractor with daddy.
